Clay Courts Open at Voyager Tennis Meadowbank NSW

Voyager Tennis Meadowbank has officially opened two new European clay courts, with City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown leading the opening alongside Ryan Henry, Managing Director of Voyager Tennis, City of Ryde Council, Olivia Thornton, CEO of Tennis NSW, and Richard Price, CEO of SSMG. The opening brought together partners, staff and players to recognise an important upgrade for Meadowbank and for tennis in New South Wales.
These courts add a new surface to Meadowbank and give the venue more scope across coaching, training and events. They will also support the work already happening on site, from community programs through to high performance development.
Official opening with City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown
We were pleased to welcome Mayor Trenton Brown to Meadowbank to officially open the courts and recognise the project with our partners and community. Having the City of Ryde Council, Tennis NSW and SSMG represented on the day was a strong show of support for local sport and for the venues that keep communities active.
Voyager Tennis Meadowbank is home to one of Australia’s leading Academy Programs and is recognised as a National Talent Hub. The new clay courts strengthen the development environment for emerging players, while also adding something new for the wider community to enjoy.
Two European clay courts now open at Meadowbank NSW
The two new European clay courts add a surface that plays differently to hard courts. Clay generally sits up a little higher and rewards players who are prepared to build points, stay patient in rallies and use shape, height and spin effectively.
For some, clay is a brand new experience. For others, it is the surface they have been asking for. Either way, it gives Meadowbank players another option for training and match play, and it helps broaden the overall coaching environment at the venue.
European clay court tennis and player development in NSW
Clay is a great surface for learning. It gives players time to work through points, recognise patterns and make better decisions under pressure. Juniors often benefit from the focus on consistency and court awareness, while adults often enjoy the tactical side of the game and the challenge of building points with intent.
As home to one of Australia’s leading academy programs and a recognised National Talent Hub, Voyager Tennis Meadowbank plays an important role in developing emerging players. These clay courts strengthen that pathway by adding another surface that supports movement, problem solving and match toughness, while still being accessible for beginners and social players who simply want a great place to play.
Commenting on how this new infrastructure supports player pathways and community access, Voyager Tennis Managing Director Ryan Henry emphasized that the project is all about creating the right environment for growth:
Great facilities create great opportunities. This investment reflects our commitment to supporting participation at every level of the game, from local families and social players through to the next generation of high-performance athletes. We are proud to continue investing in facilities that strengthen our communities and help grow the sport of tennis.
Clay court coaching and clay court events at Voyager Tennis Meadowbank
With clay now part of the facility, Meadowbank can expand specialised clay court coaching and introduce more clay focused training blocks and events. Clay based sessions can support movement and recovery habits, point construction, and learning how to use spin and height to control rallies.
What the new clay courts support at Meadowbank
- A new European clay surface for coaching, training and match play alongside existing hard courts.
- More scope for specialised clay court coaching blocks and clay focused events.
- A stronger development environment for emerging athletes, while keeping the venue welcoming for beginners, social players and families.
Thanks to our partners and community
Thank you to the City of Ryde Council, Tennis NSW, SSMG, and everyone involved in delivering the new clay courts at Voyager Tennis Meadowbank. We also want to thank our coaches, players and families for the energy they bring to the venue every week. It is that community that gives projects like this their meaning.
