School Holiday Tennis Camps Are Underway

The school holidays have arrived, and the courts at Voyager Tennis are getting busy.

Across our School Holiday Tennis Camps, kids are swapping their usual school-day routine for time on court, with tennis coaching, games and plenty of opportunities to play.

For some children, the holidays mean extra time to work on a game they already love. For others, this could be their first proper introduction to tennis. Both can find plenty to enjoy during a holiday camp.

And if your family hasn’t made plans for the rest of the break yet, there may still be time to add some tennis to the calendar.

School Holidays Are Better With Time on Court

Once the initial excitement of finishing school wears off, keeping children occupied throughout the break can become a challenge.

A tennis camp gives the day some structure without making it feel like another day at school. Children are outside, moving between activities and spending time with other kids.

There’s also enough variety on court to keep things interesting. Depending on the group and playing level, sessions can move between stroke development, movement exercises, rallies, games and match play.

The emphasis isn’t on children spending the entire day standing in a line waiting for their turn. They should be hitting balls, moving and playing.

New to Tennis? The Holidays Are a Good Time to Start

One of the good things about trying tennis during the school holidays is that children have time to explore the sport without adding another commitment to an already busy school week.

Beginners don’t need to arrive knowing how to serve, score a match or sustain a long rally. That’s what learning is for.

The first session may simply be about getting comfortable with a racquet, making contact with the ball and understanding where to stand. From there, coaches can gradually introduce different shots, movement and simple points.

A child doesn’t need to be a tennis player before attending a holiday camp. The camp can be where they start becoming one.

Regular Players Can Make the Most of the Extra Court Time

For children already attending weekly tennis lessons, the school break offers something different.

Instead of waiting another week for their next session, players can spend more time on court over several days. That extra repetition can be useful for practising a serve, becoming more consistent during rallies or getting more comfortable playing points.

Holiday camps also give regular players the chance to hit with different children. A new opponent might play faster, defend more balls or create completely different rallies from the players they normally face.

That keeps things interesting and gives children new problems to work out for themselves.

There’s More Happening Than Tennis

Not every memorable part of a tennis camp happens while hitting a ball.

Children are also meeting people, finding partners for activities, joining teams and learning how to play alongside different personalities.

There will be good points and frustrating ones. Sometimes a shot works exactly as intended. Sometimes it lands in the net three times in a row.

Then another ball arrives.

That rhythm gives children plenty of opportunities to keep trying without turning every mistake into a big moment. By the end of a session, something that felt difficult in the morning can already feel more familiar.

Haven’t Booked Yet?

The holidays may have started, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve missed your chance to get the kids involved.

Families can check the Voyager Tennis School Holiday Camps page to find available programs and locations.

When choosing a session, consider your child’s age, current playing experience and what they would enjoy most. A complete beginner and a child who regularly competes will naturally need different experiences on court.

If the holidays have sparked an interest in tennis but you’re not ready to commit to a program, families can also book a free tennis trial and give their child an opportunity to experience tennis with Voyager.

There’s Still Time to Join the Holiday Fun

School holidays disappear quickly. Before long, lunches are being packed again and the normal weekly routine starts over.

For now, there’s still time to make the most of the break.

A few hours on a tennis court can give children somewhere to move, play, meet other kids and work on something new. They might improve a particular shot. They might discover that they love match play. Or they might simply come home talking about how much fun they had.
